Black Superhero Poster Analysis: In Honor of Black History Month

" First Lady Michelle Obama as Madame America", is what reads at the top of a poster created in honor of Black History Month. It depicts former first lady, Michelle Obama, as a superhero, standing in the foreground of the White-house. Her ensemble is nothing short of patriotic; dripping with the colors of the American flag. The image of Michelle Obama stands out in the poster, as it's the image in the foreground with colors that stand out from the dark background.

Aside from the amazing images in this poster, there is arguably an important message behind it.  This poster is one of many included in a Black History Month campaign that follows the slogan," the struggle still continues". This poster in particular addresses the idea of a struggle continuing. At a quick glance, one may ponder the question, What is the continuous struggle being presented in this posted? Looking a bit deeper into the images in the poster allows one the opportunity to discover the answer to such a question. The poster suggests, that despite the fact that the country has grown expeditiously, that there still are an enormous amount of problems that our country faces. So many, in fact, that the nation's first African American president, former president Barack Obama, couldn't handle it alone. His wife, Michelle, has taken on the role of "Madame America" in an effort to aid her husband in saving the nation from its villains, whatever and whomever they may be.

I chose to analyze and write about this poster because our society is currently experiencing a time where a former presidency and an election's surprising outcome creates more tension than any other. This poster suggests that all individuals of the Obama administration and family were willing to work hard to contribute to the greater good of the country, even his wife.
